A Bohemian Summer Elopement In Manhattan New York City

Amberly and Marcus reached out to me with such a vision for their elopement in Manhattan. They wanted to celebrate their intimate union in NYC during the warm summer months to complement their bohemian style. That led us to planning a day running around the West Village before their family joined them in Shakespeare’s Garden in Central Park to witness them exchange vows.

Wedding Portraits in West Village

From the very beginning, Amberly told me that she really likes the way I mix editorial and candid style photography. She really wanted to capture their adventurous spirits and to feel the love they share in each photo. But they also wanted to feel like the bombshells that they are. To capture the cozy, warm side of New York City we decided to run around the streets of West Village bobbing through the busier streets and the quieter brown stones. We played around a lot with their portraits using digital and 35mm film, as well as mixing in some direct flash in the harsh light of the afternoon.

While in West Village, we also hopped on the subway for a couple stops to capture those quintessential NYC transportation shots. Then we decided to run into Bandits for a “vibey” cocktail. Amberly and Dustin started their own cocktail business together so it was absolutely fitting to add in this stop to their day! The lighting coming through the windows here illuminated them in this corner booth soooo gorgeously. It’s like you can feel the sun in the photos. The rich earth tone color palette yet again highlighted the bohemian summer vibes of their elopement. After finishing a couple yummy cocktails it was time to head to Central Park to say “I do!”

A Family Affair

This elopement was such an intimate day as Amberly and Dustin really wanted to honor their close connections with their families. They decided to elope in Central Park, more specifically in Shakespeare’s Garden, so that they could have Dustin’s sister officiate their vows with their closest loved ones surrounding them. It was such a beautiful summer afternoon and their exchange of personally written vows were beautifully emotional. Not a dry eye around. Post first-kiss as husband and wife we took a few family photos in the gardens and then ended the day with some final portraits of A & D to commemorate those just married butterflies.
