Are you as big a fan of autumn vibes as I am? Then this moody fall wedding at the Weylin, a spooky old bank turned venue in Brooklyn, is gonna leave you in awe.
Meeting MC & Will
MC and Will originally booked me for their engagement session because they wanted something that was on the moodier side and really embraced the blend of grunge and glam in NYC. Once we met and started shooting we immediately all hit it off. We chased the sun in Chelsea and fully embraced a nontraditional approach. We chatted about so many things but one thing we had in common was our love for some old emo era hits and a good spooky vibe. By the end of their session they were like, “wait you would LOVE where we’re getting married. It’s an old bank, probably haunted, with a birdcage elevator and the moodiest lighting.”
A Dark and Moody Fall Ambiance
Fast forward to their wedding day, I met them at the Weylin in Brooklyn, NY. I had already learned so much about the history of the venue. It used to be an old savings bank and had the dreamiest art deco, European inspired architecture and detailing. It also has the most amazing vintage wallpapers in every room. The venue kept a lot of its old original bank features such as multiple vaults. The Weylin turned one of the vaults in their speakeasy style basement into a champagne vault, which played a super sweet role in their dark and moody vibes later in the day.
We started the day running around the bank for their portraits using the moody light to bring in some elegance and glam with an edge. We did their first look in the main vault upstairs and then rolled into portraits under the large domed ceilings and ending in the birdcage elevator. Next, we gathered their crazy hype friends and family to do some playful group portraits. We used the speakeasy in front of the secondary vault and the bar as our backdrop. Everyone looked super elegant in their varying black attire and their wedding party and family were all mixed together. We got rowdy, and we got the energy levels way up!
The Glowing, Candlelit Ceremony
Riding that energy, we moved into the ceremony which was simply decorated. Gold chairs formed a circle around where the couple would exchange vows to mirror the dome ceiling above. Candles and candelabras also surrounded them. The golden warmth lit the room in such a romantic and elegant light encompassing Will and MC. They traded the sweetest vows and included readings from their best friends.
A Vibey Evening with Tarot Cards and Cocktails
Post ceremony, everyone excitedly moved to cocktail hour in the speakeasy. Set up in the champagne vault, a tarot reader welcomed guests! The rest of the evening was filled with loving toasts, dances, and a multitude of laughter! I also got to stay until the very end of the reception because it was important to MC and Will that we capture the “emo hour” towards the end. MC and Will plus all of their friends sung their hearts out and jumped on the dance floor. I will admit I was yelling the classic hits right there with them. I will never forget this fall wedding at the Weylin.
