“we want couple’s photos where john wick was filmed” AKA Bethesda Terrace
In love with traveling to New York City , Kat + Cisco wanted to memorialize those fun, adventurous memories before moving back to Florida. This quote came about after Kat reached out to me and we were planning their couple’s session. It was this moment I knew I was really excited to meet them. Moreover, we became instant besties when I found out (at the session) that Cisco was trolling me as a “rando sliding in my DM’s to meet up and talk Insta reels” before I knew who he was. I had left him on read…. oops. But what a great ice breaker. From then on out it was non-stop dad jokes, inappropriate references, and mega laughter. I am still not over all the magic of their beautiful romance as we strolled around Bethesda Terrace.
letting chemistry lead the way
If you know me, you know that I focus on the chemistry and flow between a couple during the session. Additionally, I also don’t over-pose and prefer to give prompts that pull genuine reactions and emotions from my couples. This is the perfect formula when you have a large location (like central park) that could easily make you want to hit allll the spots. Instead, we adventured around Bethesda Terrace capitalizing on the beautiful architecture but keeping it as the backdrop to their love.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to hit multiple spots. We can 100% do that anytime. However, don’t feel like you HAVE to. The advantage here is that we could slow down and create a space to focus on the sweet things that make you guys you.
Tips for your session at Bethesda Terrace
Tip number one
Bethesda Terrace is a beautiful and well known spot in New York City. It lies in the middle of lower Central Park in Manhattan. Ya know what that means? You’re gonna have to walk a bit to get there. However, don’t get me wrong it’s not that long of walk. But, regardless there are a few uphill spots and a few extra steps than driving to a typical location. So, bring a small bag and toss those heels in there and wear some comfy shoes to get there.
Tip number two
Decide what you want from the session– beautiful and elegant, or a contrast of classical and casual. Both would be so fun here, but as you can see Bethesda has STUNNING architecture and magnificent tile work. Similar to Kat and Cisco you could go the route of complementary style and pair some elegant attire, in a monochromatic scheme and let those gorgeous warm jewel tones of the location pop. Orrrr, you might enjoy something like a casual cute outfit in those same warm tones with a pop of denim or maybe some comfy docs. You decide! But keep those gorgeous jewel tones and neutrals in mind.
Tip number three
Lastly, don’t worry about whether or not it’s super busy. We as photographers can take care of this, whether it’s how we photograph you in this locaiton, or if we have to edit out a person or two later. To sum up, if my words have yet to convince you to book a couple session with the love of your life, I hope these romantic photos of Kat and Cisco make you as weak in the knees as me. I’m so happy I got to be a part of this beautiful day and even more thankful to call these guys friends. We had such a fun time talking about New York, our past adventures, and towards the end our love of cookies, that we decided to walk to their fave cookie bakery which happened to be only a few blocks down. Now if only every session in the future ends with cookies and I will be a happy camper.
